Presented by Kindred Arts the Monumental Tour app amplifies and accompanies the physical objects exhibited by Monumental: A touring outdoor public art exhibition featuring works which examine aspects of Black, indigenous and POC histories. Here you can find audio guides and use augmented reality markers to explore the tour and its featured contemporary artworks. These artworks aim to spark civic dialogue and conversation about our shared past, centering under-told stories of Black, indigenous and POC resistance and resilience from a new perspective and in greater depth.
Kindred Arts is a nonprofit cultural equity initiative, pushing back against master narrative and programming outdoor public space to reflect a multiplicity of human identities and experiences. Curated by Marsha Reid, the tour features a rotating cast of monumental works by some of today’s most prominent contemporary artists of color: Arthur Jafa, Kennedy Yanko, Kehinde Wiley, Hank Willis Thomas, Coby Kennedy & Christopher Myers.
Kindred believes there is room enough for all of our stories and we hope that Monumental Tour exemplifies how public art can memorialize and inspire and at the same time, foster equitable commemorative landscapes.
